Playing sports is one of the most common activities that people of all ages participate in all year round. Kids are learning to play sports at younger and younger ages and adults have continued to master their sport as they continue to age. With over 65 percent of children involved in at least one sport and seniors also very active, it is important to understand how chiropractic can benefit all athletes.
Did you know that many professional athletes use chiropractic as part of their wellness program to help them perform at their top level? By keeping their bodies free of nerve interference through spinal adjustments, these athletes are giving themselves the best chance to avoid injuries, gain strength and flexibility, improve focus, and increase energy. Since professional athletes strongly value what chiropractic does for them, all those that participate in sports should also use chiropractic as well.
Whether you are a golfer, tennis player, baseball player, basketball player, crossfit athlete, or a speed walker the foundation to every single movement in all sports starts with the spine. The spine is the central connecting point for the arms and legs and also the attachment point to most of the big muscle groups that are used in physical activities. All coordination to the muscles and joints of the body come from messages from the brain. The brain will send the signals to those muscles to move the joint in a given direction at a particular speed with specific accuracy.
When the bones of the spine are lined up properly, those messages are able to travel from the brain to the areas needed without any distortion of the message. However, if just one vertebra in the spine is subluxated (misaligned) the messages from the brain will not get to its destination with a clear signal. This is how muscle imbalances and sprains of ligaments can occur; the joint doesn’t have proper direction and movement due to the distorted signal from the brain. Chiropractic aims to help restore communication from the brain to all parts of the body so 100 percent performance can be achieved.
